Irish singer songwriter Damien Rice partnered with Jófríður Ákadóttir and Sandrayati Fay to write “Song for Berta”, inspired by the life of Berta Cáceres, an indigenous leader and environmental activist who was murdered in her native Honduras in 2015 as a result of her work.
In 2023, Art for Human Rights partnered with Amnesty International sections in France, Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, Australia, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia and the United States, the International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) and Front Line Defenders on the European, Australian and South East Asian and US legs of Irish singer-songwriter and activist Damien Rice‘s tour to “celebrate those who protect our planet”.
During the tour, Rice performed “Song for Berta”, a piece he wrote with Jófríður Ákadóttir (JFDR) and Sandrayati Fay, inspired by the life and work of Berta Cáceres, an indigenous leader and environmental activist who was murdered in her native Honduras in 2015 as a result of her brave work. The song was released in 2021 and all the proceeds went to COPINH (Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras), the organization Berta founded in 1993. A video of the song illustrated by The Fake Pan was later released in collaboration with COPINH, Art for Human Rights and Amnesty International.
