In December 2024, Art for Human Rights hosted two special benefit screenings of the acclaimed documentary Joan Baez: I Am A Noise at the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin. Joan Baez alongside two of the film’s directors, Karen O’Connor and Maeve O’Boyle (with the third director, Miri Navasky, unfortunately absent), spent a week in Dublin celebrating their remarkable film and Joan’s extraordinary career and life.
The screenings were attended by President Michael D. Higgins and Mrs. Higgins along with many of Ireland’s leading artists, writers, and activists.
Following the first screening the audience was treated to a special performance where Joan Baez joined Irish musicians including Hozier, Damien Rice, Mary Black, Glen Hansard, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Paul Brady and many more for an unforgettable song and dance.
Joan also captivated audiences at the Seamus Heaney HomePlace during a conversation with Paul Muldoon, signed copies of her book When You See My Mother Ask Her to Dance at the Gutter Bookshop in Temple Bar and was honoured with a gold medal for Outstanding Public Discourse by the Trinity Historical Society.
